Intraday Trading: What Beginners Should Understand

Why speed and frequency can increase complexity and risk.

Intraday trading means opening and closing positions within the same trading day. It requires attention to execution, liquidity, costs, volatility and risk management.

SEBI reported in July 2024 that seven out of ten individual traders in the equity cash intraday segment made losses during the study period. The finding is a useful reminder that frequent trading is not automatically easier or safer.

Education should focus on process, risk and realistic expectations rather than the number of trades made.
